African Migration and Urbanization in
Comparative Perspective
June 4-7, 2003 | Johannesburg, South Africa
In June 2003, PUM presided over a symposium that evaluated
migration and urbanization in developing African countries in
light of comparative evidence from Asia and Latin America.
Details of this conference may be found on the
African Migration Conference Website.
Organizing the conference also brought into keen focus a
significant gap in the field of migration research, namely the
relationship between migration and environmental change.
Therefore, PUM has initiated research activities that will
address the environmental consequences of population movement.
Burt Singer, Sara Curran, and Marta Tienda, as well as visiting
fellow Roberto Luis Monte-Mór and postdoctoral fellow Marcia
Caldas de Castro, are organizing a workshop, identifying
scholars working on environment and population change in Africa. |
